Best Accredited Online Holistic Nursing Schools for Working RNs

Compare ACEN/CCNE-accredited online holistic nursing schools by cost, outcomes and fit

Most important takeaways…

  • Most fully online accredited holistic options are RN-to-BSN completion degrees.
  • Check three layers: institutional accreditation, ACEN or CCNE, then AHNCC endorsement.
  • No program awards HNB-BC, which requires an active, unrestricted RN license.

Holistic nursing is a practice specialty, not a degree title, and very few accredited schools award a stand-alone holistic nursing degree. That mismatch confuses most nurses who search for one. Most programs that fit are RN-to-BSN or MSN offerings with holistic coursework, and the specialty credential, HNB-BC, comes separately through AHNCC.

The ranked list ahead covers programs that can be completed 100% online, because a commute to campus defeats the purpose for nurses working rotating shifts. Accreditation by ACEN or CCNE, how AHNCC endorsement differs, tuition, and the route to board certification follow.

A holistic focus rarely changes your license or your pay scale on its own, so the accreditation behind the degree matters most.

Best Fully Online Accredited Holistic Nursing Programs, Ranked

Every program below can be completed entirely online, and hybrid or campus-required formats were left out. Most fully online accredited options at this level are RN-to-BSN completion degrees, ordered here by a mixed quality composite that weighs graduate earnings, cost of living adjusted tuition and completion outcomes. What they give you is an accredited nursing degree with population health, leadership and community content; the holistic credential itself is a separate step through the AHNCC's HN-BC pathway, which pairs an accredited degree with holistic practice hours and continuing education.

Behind the Scores: What Our Online-Only Composite Rewards

A composite score is simply a way of stacking similar-looking programs against a handful of measures a working nurse actually feels. Delivery format came first: a program had to be completable fully online, without a standing commute to campus, to be considered at all. Once that filter was applied, a baseline quality composite settled the order among schools that otherwise looked interchangeable.

What goes into the score

  • Online-only delivery: coursework you can finish from home, with clinical or practicum hours arranged locally rather than on campus.
  • Cost: published tuition and net price, since holistic nursing program cost varies far more than curriculum does.
  • Completion: the institution's graduation rate, as a rough signal of how well it supports students through to the end.
  • Program-level outcomes: earnings and completion figures where the school or federal reporting actually publishes them.

Where the numbers stop short

Graduation rate and net price are institution-wide, not specific to a nursing track, so treat them as context rather than a verdict on the program itself. Accreditation was verified separately and is covered in its own section below.

Use the list as a starting point: shortlist two or three programs, then confirm accreditation status and whether the school is authorized to enroll students in your state directly with each admissions office.

Are Holistic Nursing Programs Accredited? Institutional, ACEN/CCNE and AHNCC Endorsement Explained

Some accreditation is required to protect your license and your aid, and some is a bonus for your résumé. Holistic nursing programs involve three separate layers, and they are easy to confuse.

The Three Layers

  • Institutional accreditation: This covers the whole school. It is what generally makes a school eligible for federal financial aid, and employers and graduate programs expect it.
  • Programmatic accreditation (ACEN or CCNE): This covers a specific nursing program at a specific level. ACEN is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and CHEA, and it accredits programs from practical nursing through the DNP.1 A school can be institutionally accredited while a given nursing program is not.
  • AHNCC endorsement: The American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation reviews a curriculum for holistic content. It is not equivalent to accreditation, and it lasts five years before the school must reapply.

What Matters for What

For licensure, employer recognition and graduate-school transfer, the first two layers do the heavy lifting. Check ACEN or CCNE status carefully; programmatic accreditation is the layer most tied to your path toward licensure and later study. AHNCC endorsement is optional. Its payoff is that graduates of an endorsed program may pursue holistic nursing certification after passing the NCLEX and holding an RN license.

Nursing accreditors evaluate the degree program, not the word "holistic" in its title. A program can use that label without any holistic review behind it. Only the AHNCC list speaks to that.

How to Verify in Minutes

  • Search the school in the ACEN Search Programs directory2, and in the CCNE directory, and confirm the exact degree level (RN-to-BSN or MSN). A school-wide statement is not enough.
  • Open AHNCC's current endorsed programs list and read the program column, not just the school name. An endorsed school may have only some programs endorsed.
  • Confirm your institution's accreditation through the accreditor it names.

For example, Joyce University lists its online RN to BSN as endorsed, and Metropolitan State University lists both its RN to BSN and entry-level MSN. If dates are missing from an entry, ask the school or AHNCC directly.

RN to BSN, MSN Tracks and Certificates: Which Holistic Pathway Fits

Your starting credential decides which holistic route makes sense, so begin with who qualifies and work across. Keep in mind that no program hands you the HNB-BC credential: AHNCC still requires an active unrestricted RN license, 2,000 hours or one year of full-time holistic practice within the past five years, and 48 hours of holistic continuing education within the previous three years. Graduating from an AHNCC-endorsed program supports the education side, and those graduates may apply within 3 years of finishing. Endorsement applies to specific programs, not whole schools, so confirm the exact program you plan to enroll in.

Questions to Ask Yourself

Your license and degree decide where you enter. An ADN-prepared RN usually starts with an RN to BSN pathway, while a BSN holder can move straight to a certificate or an MSN track.

Bedside holistic care, coaching, and integrative roles rarely require graduate study. Prescribing and diagnosing require an accredited NP program, so this answer sets your degree level and timeline.

Board certification through AHNCC has its own eligibility requirements. If a credential and focused coursework satisfy your employer, a certificate can cost far less than a full degree.

Online coursework is portable, but clinical hours are not. Confirm state authorization and ask how placements are arranged before you apply, so you are not left finding your own preceptor.

Holistic Nursing Program Cost, Debt and Financial Aid

A low per-credit rate and a low total bill are not the same thing, and the gap usually comes down to how many credits you still need. Start with the sticker range, then build your own estimate.

What the Lowest-Cost Programs Charge

Among the cheapest options ranked here, published in-state tuition and fees run from about $2,730 at Dallas College to $9,987 at UT Rio Grande Valley. These are bachelor's-level RN-to-BSN figures before aid, not net price, and out-of-state rates run higher. Treat them as a starting point, since what you actually pay depends on residency, credits and fees.

Per-Credit Math for Working RNs

The RN-to-BSN examples in our research show how much totals vary:

  • Radford: $382 per credit, about $11,460 for 30 nursing-core credits, roughly 10 months. It is the one example with an explicitly holistic course.
  • UT Arlington: $257 per credit, $8,995 for 35 credits, about 9 months.
  • Arkansas State: $302 per credit, about $9,060 for 30 nursing credits. You may need extra support courses if statistics or A&P are missing.
  • ACE: $380 per credit, $11,400 for 30 credits, 14 to 18 months.
  • Rowan: $560 to $609 per credit across 120 credits, 12 to 30 months. Its listed price and program page disagree, so confirm before budgeting.

Most of these are not dedicated holistic degrees. Drexel's MSN lists $974 to $1,298 per credit, but I could not confirm total credits or holistic content.1 I found no reliable 2026 benchmark for holistic MSN tracks or standalone certificates, so ask each school for a full cost sheet.

Aid Worth Checking

File the FAFSA first. It can qualify you for federal Direct Loans and work-study, and Pell Grants may be available if you are an eligible undergraduate. Employer tuition assistance is often the biggest lever for working nurses, but caps, eligible programs, grade requirements and repayment clauses differ by employer, so get the policy in writing. Nursing scholarships and loan-repayment programs, including federal options such as Nurse Corps, are worth a look, though eligibility varies.

A Quick Way to Cut Cost

Maximize transfer credits before you enroll. Rowan and West Coast each accept up to 90, and Radford says many transfers need only a handful of extra credits beyond the nursing core. Pair that with employer reimbursement, and the bill can shrink considerably.

What Do Online Nursing Completers Earn Four Years After Graduating?

These figures show median earnings for bachelor's nursing completers at the ranked schools, measured four years after completion. Most students in these online RN to BSN programs were already working as licensed nurses when they enrolled, which helps explain the strong numbers. The earnings cover the broad registered nursing program category, not holistic nurses or HNB-BC certificate holders specifically, so treat them as a baseline for BSN-prepared RNs rather than a holistic specialty premium.

Median earnings four years after a nursing bachelor's range from $95,566 to $119,115 across ranked online schools

Admission Requirements, Clinical Hours and State Authorization

Requirements vary by school. The figures below come from published online RN-to-BSN programs and are examples, not universal rules. MSN-level holistic tracks set their own criteria.

  • Active RN license
Most programs expect an active, unencumbered U.S. RN license, and some limit which licenses qualify. The University of Oklahoma accepts Oklahoma or compact (NLC) licenses, and Texas State requires a Texas license. The University of Cincinnati lets ADN students apply first and show licensure before specific later courses.
  • Minimum GPA
Published minimums run from 2.0 at Methodist and Ohio State to 2.5 at Benedictine, Texas State and Oklahoma. LSU sets 2.25, and Cincinnati reviews applicants below its recommended 2.5 case by case.
  • Prior degree, transcripts and prerequisites
Expect to need an ADN or qualifying nursing diploma plus official transcripts. Methodist, for example, lists anatomy and physiology I and II, microbiology, statistics and general psychology, each with a C or better.
  • Transfer credit
Policies differ widely. Benedictine accepts up to 90 credits and Methodist up to 93. Request an unofficial transcript evaluation before you apply.
  • Clinical or practicum hours
Online coursework rarely means no in-person practice. Oklahoma requires 112 clinical hours. Texas State holds more than 1,000 clinical agreements, but students contact sites themselves and need departmental approval. Northern Michigan uses project-based work with your current employer. Ask who finds the preceptor.
  • State authorization
A school must be authorized to enroll students where you live, and clinical placements can face extra state rules. Compare the school's state authorization page with NC-SARA's regulation chart, last updated March 30, 2026, before applying.

What Holistic Nurses Can Expect to Earn

Holistic nurses are licensed RNs, so the registered nurse wage is the most reliable pay benchmark.
